Biography

Abdullah Alhussain is an Architect and multidisciplinary artist exposing the intersections of seemingly disparate mediums. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia-based artist has founded his practice around the manipulations of light and shadow as illuminating forces for our modern day lived experiences with nature.

Alhussain’s desire to become a professional artist and architect began in his youth. His family fostered his creative spirit from a young age, with his mother teaching him the value of hands-on projects and his architect father imparting a passion for design. Throughout his academic career, he was drawn to art classes. Committed to bringing his artistic visions to life, he went on to obtain his B.A. in Architecture at King Saud University, Riyadh, and received an M.A. in Construction Management at Philadelphia University, USA.

Art and architecture came together in his practice all around a central theme, light. He began developing a distinctive style at the crossroads of these often divergent pathways of artmaking. Whether in inks, paints, laser cut relief sculptures, or even installations, he creates his signature approach to the patterns, shapes, and rhythms of nature. Bringing an international perspective to his work, he combines his heritage with a passion for the fragmented nature of the deconstructive school of architecture, allowing him to insert his own stylistic elements as he dismantles and reconstructs once familiar forms. What remains are inspirational, emotionally evocative, and universally resonating works.

His work has been exhibited extensively both domestically in Saudi Arabia and internationally in solo and group exhibitions. Among the institutions he has exhibited with are the International Fair with Philadelphia University, Aramco Camp Gallery in Dhahran, Riyadh Gallery in Riyadh as well as participation with and Artever in Riyadh. He also works on private commissions with prestigious clients including Schlumberger, Banyan Tree AlUla hotel, Dao Company, and AMAALA Company. Additionally, his work has been published in Sketchbook in New York and his installation S’a’na was the recipient of the Misk Art Institute award as part of his Fann’n Residency program
